Sylvia Hartmann

Sylvia Hartmann

Sylvia Hartmann is professor and chair of pathology at the University Hospital Essen, Germany. Her scientific work focuses on lymphoid malignancies and the tumor microenvironment. She has authored and co-authored key publications on contributing insights into the biology, diagnosis, and microenvironmental dynamics of malignant lymphomas, including classic and nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin lymphoma, T cell lymphomas and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.

Recent publications include studies on histopathological growth pattern–based risk stratification and genetics of NLPHL and the role of checkpoint inhibition in modulating cellular contacts in Hodgkin microenvironments. Her studies address how lymphoma cells interact with infectious agents and immune cells, including work demonstrating recognition of Moraxella catarrhalis by lymphocyte predominant cells and dissecting functional crosstalk in the lymphoma microenvironment, underlining her role at the interface of diagnostic hematopathology, lymphoma biology, and immuno-oncology.
